1. Create the shared login
A manager does this once, from a computer or phone:
- Open Settings (the cog at the top right), then Staff management.
- Press Add staff and choose Shared / kiosk login.
- Give it a Device name, such as “iPad” or “Till”, and a Password of at least 8 characters that the team can type.
- Press Add shared login.
You can add one shared login per device. To change its password later, use Password & access on its row on the Staff page.
2. Find your shop code
Go to Settings, then Shop details. The Shop code is a short code of letters and numbers that works for every shared device in your shop. If it ever gets out, press Regenerate: the old one stops working straight away, and devices already signed in stay signed in.
3. Sign the iPad in
- On the iPad, open Safari and go to unpickleapp.com.
- Tap Sign in, then Logging in a shared device?
- Enter the Shop code and the shared login’s Password, then tap Sign in.
4. Add Unpickle to the Home Screen
On an iPad or iPhone, alerts only work when Unpickle is opened from its own Home Screen icon, and need iPadOS or iOS 16.4 or later (check in Settings, General, About).
- In Safari, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.
- Close Safari and open the new Unpickle icon. Sign in again with the shop code and password: the Home Screen app keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari.
5. Turn on alerts
- Tap the round initial at the top of the screen (or the device name in the sidebar) to open Your account.
- Under Push notifications, tick Enable shop alerts for this shared device and tap Enable notifications.
- When the iPad asks, tap Allow.
- Tap Send test notification to check it works. Focus and Do Not Disturb can hide alerts.
The shared login can’t turn its alerts off. The tablet is the shop’s alert screen, so whoever happens to be holding it can’t silence it: there is no off switch on its account page, and which alerts it gets can only be changed by a manager. Signing out does turn alerts off on that device, so leave the shop tablet signed in. To silence it for a while, use the iPad’s own Settings, then Notifications, then Unpickle.
Alerts on the shared login can be seen by everyone using the device. Picking your name on a task or delivery doesn’t sign you up for alerts; for alerts on your own phone, sign in with your own login and turn them on from Your account there.
Using it on shift
There’s no PIN. When someone opens a task or checks a delivery, the app asks who they are (Who’s doing this? on a task, Who is checking? on a delivery) and they tap their name. Their points and streaks count as normal. See checking deliveries.
